A Sumptuous Scrub
A Signature Emirates Hammam by Hammamii (above) combines traditional Moroccan and Turkish hammam elements with local UAE ingredients and an Emirati twist. And the spa at Abu Dhabi’s Eastern Mangroves Hotel by Anantara couldn’t be a more fitting locale, as it dazzles with Arabian splendour. The treatment starts with a two-step mini facial, which is followed by an activated charcoal and black soap application, five minutes of steaming in a eucalyptus-scented room, a thorough kesse mitt scrub and a za’atar exfoliation. The full-body palmeraie date mask (made from five kinds of different dates and infused with sweet orange oil and cloves) is wonderfully indulgent and a touch of theatrics is next, as the therapist covers you in a cloud of foam, before you’re rinsed, cleaned with a minty body wash and finally doused with a salt and camel milk soak. A hair ritual is also part of the experience – you’ll love the mineral-rich Moroccan rhassoul clay, lavender and rosemary mask. Final steps include being slathered in safran oil, which comes from the Atlas Mountains; and a spritz with a cacti elixir facial mist. You’ll emerge with butter-soft skin and smelling delicious.

The Saray Golden Hammam treatment at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai combines a traditional Turkish hammam experience with the healing and rejuvenating properties of 24k gold-infused oil. The therapist begins by cleansing your body with soap made from black olives and eucalyptus to soften your skin. With the soap still on, you’re then taken to a steam room, where you sit for 15 minutes. A quick rinse is followed by a vigorous exfoliation with a kesse mitt, which will leave your skin tingling. Another wash follows, after which you’re coated with a soothing and delicately fragranced gold mask made from kaolin clay, aloe vera fruit juice and ginger Dead Sea salt to aid detoxification. A mask of natural honey is also applied to your face. After a final round of bathing, the treatment culminates with a gentle massage with gold oil, crafted from a blend of lemon, orange, jasmine and argan oil, which purifies and nourishes the skin. Round off the experience with herbal tea and dates in the spa’s relaxation lounge, as the oil works its magic on your body. You’ll leave feeling like a caterpillar emerging from its chrysalis.
